Common questions
What does Foldline Pro include, and how do I restore it?
Scanning, Images to PDF, Fill & Sign, Markup, organizing pages (reorder, rotate, duplicate, delete), search and sharing are free. Foldline Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks editing a page's text, text recognition (OCR), merge, split and extract, Compress PDF, Redact, Password Protect, watermarks, and PDF to Images or Text. On a new device, or after reinstalling, open Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account.
Can I try Pro before I buy it?
Yes. You can use every Pro tool except Merge on one PDF of your choice, your free document. The first time you use a Pro tool, the app asks whether to use your free document on that PDF. Pro tools keep working on it, and on the copies they make from it, such as a searchable or password-protected copy. Merge isn't included because it combines several PDFs. Settings shows which PDF is your free document. It can't be moved to another PDF, even if you delete it or reinstall the app.
Does the app upload my documents or need the internet?
No. Every tool, including text recognition, runs on your device and works in Airplane Mode. You need a connection only to buy or restore Foldline Pro.
Where are my PDFs stored?
Only on your device, inside the app. They are included in your iCloud Backup or computer backup if you use one.
How do I open a PDF from Mail or Files?
Tap the Share button on the PDF and choose Foldline. The PDF is added to your library and opens. If it has a password, the app asks for it first.
I forgot a PDF's password.
The app never saves passwords, so it cannot recover one. Keep an unprotected copy if you might need it.
Is my signature a digital signature?
No. It's a handwritten mark placed on the page, not a certificate-based digital signature.
Can I change the existing text of a PDF?
Yes, with Foldline Pro or on your free document. Tap Markup, then double-tap a paragraph or a table cell (or tap it with the Edit tool), change the words and the font, size and color, and tap Done. The old words are removed from the page, so they can't be found or copied later. On a scanned page the words are part of the picture, so they're covered with the page's color instead. Text in some fonts, such as vertical or East Asian encodings, can't be edited yet.
Is redacted text really gone?
Yes. Tools > Redact makes a new PDF, "<name> (Redacted)", with everything under the boxes removed: text, pictures, drawings, comments and form fields, not just covered with black. Remove Hidden Information, on by default, also removes document properties, bookmarks, attachments and other details that aren't shown on the pages. If a drawing runs under a box, that page is saved as a picture of the page, and the app says which pages; Make Searchable can recognize their text again. Check the new PDF before you share it. The original isn't changed.
Why didn't Compress PDF make my file smaller?
Compress PDF shrinks photos and scanned pages. A PDF that is mostly text and drawings is already small, so the app says it's about as small as it can be and doesn't make a copy. Text, links, comments, form fields and passwords stay exactly as they are.
